From excl. VAT (HT) to incl. VAT (TTC)

VAT is calculated on the amount excluding tax: VAT = HT × rate / 100, then TTC = HT + VAT. In other words, TTC = HT × 1.20 at the 20% rate and HT × 1.10 at the 10% rate.

Example: goods sold for 5,000 DH excluding VAT at 20%. VAT = 5,000 × 20 / 100 = 1,000 DH. TTC = 5,000 + 1,000 = 6,000 DH.

From incl. VAT (TTC) to excl. VAT (HT)

You divide, you do not subtract 20%: HT = TTC / (1 + rate / 100), that is TTC / 1.20 or TTC / 1.10. The VAT is then TTC − HT.

Example: a receipt of 6,000 DH including VAT at 20%. HT = 6,000 / 1.20 = 5,000 DH, VAT = 1,000 DH. Subtracting 20% from 6,000 DH would give 4,800 DH: that is the most common mistake. At 20%, VAT is one sixth of the amount including VAT; at 10%, one eleventh.

VAT rates in 2026

  • 20%: the standard rate.
  • 10%: the reduced rate.
  • Exemptions: some transactions remain exempt, with no VAT to invoice.

The former 7% and 14% rates no longer exist since 1 January 2026: the reform launched by the 2024 Finance Act removed them in stages (articles 99 and 247 of the General Tax Code, DGI circular note no. 735). Check the rate that applies to your products with the DGI or your accountant. For the detailed rules, read our guide to VAT in Morocco.

No more calculator next to the notebook: totals are calculated during the sale, and quote, delivery note and invoice follow on from each other without re-typing, on the salesperson's phone as on the computer. See the invoicing software or fill in a free invoice template.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate VAT in Morocco?

Multiply the amount excluding VAT by the rate: VAT = HT × 20 / 100 at the standard rate, HT × 10 / 100 at the reduced rate. The amount including VAT (TTC) is HT + VAT. For 5,000 DH excluding VAT at 20%, the VAT is 1,000 DH and the TTC 6,000 DH.

How do you find the amount excluding VAT from the amount including VAT?

Divide the TTC by 1.20 at the 20% rate, or by 1.10 at the 10% rate. The VAT is then the difference TTC − HT. For 6,000 DH including VAT at 20%: 6,000 / 1.20 = 5,000 DH excluding VAT, and 1,000 DH of VAT.

What are the VAT rates in Morocco in 2026?

Since 1 January 2026, two rates: 20% (standard rate) and 10% (reduced rate), in addition to exempt transactions. The former 7% and 14% rates were removed by the reform launched in the 2024 Finance Act, phased in until 1 January 2026 (articles 99 and 247 of the General Tax Code, DGI circular note no. 735).

Why is my result one centime off?

Because of rounding. From HT to TTC, the calculator rounds the VAT to the centime before adding it to the HT, as on an invoice; from TTC to HT, it rounds the HT and takes the VAT as the difference. In both cases, HT + VAT lands exactly on the TTC shown. Rounding only at the end, or line by line, can create a one-centime gap.

Do you have to write the amount including VAT in words?

It is not a mention required by the General Tax Code (article 145-III), but it is the custom on invoices in Morocco: « Arrêtée la présente facture à la somme de… ». The calculator writes it for you under the result, in dirhams and centimes, in French as it appears on Moroccan invoices.
